Beautiful Light, Maine coast

14x18 acrylic
I have been wanting to paint this scene for a couple of years now and finally got around to doing so this week.  I was driving up the coast of Maine one summer when I stopped, got out of the car, and snapped a photo of this beautiful, Maine-coast sunset.  I have looked at the photo for so long that it seemed to come together quickly on the canvas, as if my mind had it all worked out.  This painting reminds of the Bible verse that says "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handiwork...".

The Drum Point, Portsmouth, NH

I love the Portsmouth tugs.  Whenever I am in Portsmouth, I check on what they are up to.  I have often been able to sit in a cafe by the water and watch them work in the river.  This painting was from a beautiful, sunny day when they were resting, snugged up together next to the dock.  The Drum Point was built in 1968 in Oyster Bay, NY and started out working in Baltimore, MD, before coming up north to work the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, NH.
